"Hana Shinju" (Faceted Pearl)

One such product that has been recently launched in our flagship store is the "Hana Shinju'' or the ''Faceted Pearl".
Facets are flat polished surfaces cut on a gemstone to reflect light, enabling the gemstone to exude its brilliance & natural lustre. The sheen or the glow on a Pearl is limited only to the surface & a few tenths of millimetre deep. Any cut or groove made on a pearl risks the exposure of the pearl core or nucleus, which will destroy the pearl & make it unfit to be marketed.
Until the late 90's, the general norm was that the Pearls, do not undergo any human processing other than just drilling to string them. But thanks to the efforts & experiments carried out by a Diamond cutter from Japan, faceting a pearl was finally made possible.
''Hana Shinju'' or Faceted Pearl in Japanese was created by Komatsu Kazuhito, a famous diamond cutter hailing from Kofu in Japan. This award winning technique is a manual procedure done very slowly & carefully, with utmost care.
This does not involve the usual technique of cutting grooves on a Pearl but by creating tiny window and shaping the pearl like a mirror ball. These tiny windows on a pearl gives a sharp glare, yet provide wonderful transparency, giving the viewer an impression that another pearl is confined within or a diamond sparkling inside the pearl.
A 10-12mm pearl bead will typically contains about 160 such facets. The result is a stunning product with a unique texture which shines more brilliantly.
